Sweet Andie.

This teeny tiny baby girl is Andie.  I actually got to see her twice within just a few days. She is just about two weeks old in these photos.

She may be teeny tiny, but she's perfect in every way. Such a sweetie pie!

Three.

This sweet little family of three met me at the beach for the second part of our session. Crystal Pier here in San Diego at Pacific Beach is one of my favorite places to photograph (truth be told it's a favorite of many local photographers), and the photos below are why. No matter what time of day,  no matter what the lighting conditions, I always find the sweetest light under or near that pier. sses and hugs, sweet Liam!

And pass one along to your mommy and daddy for me, okay?

Okay, just a few more...

...of darling Miss Alexis. I'm wrapping up my editing and I keep coming across these gems that I simply must share.

Hello again!

This little doll is Alexis, and she and I go way back. This is Little Miss at about two weeks old.

And here she is, big sitting up girl, at about seven months old.

Then a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of chasing her cute little tottering and teething self around Balboa Park. Oh, how I love watching these babies grow.

And it seems that in the 6 months since I last saw Alexis and her mommy and daddy, things have been changing. A lot.

Looks like a new brother or sister will be joining the family in July. Oh, what a joy it is to watch families grow.

Wee little Liam.

So, before St. Patrick's Day comes to an end, I figured it would be a great day for sharing some photos of my buddy Liam and his sweet mom and dad.  We went to the San Diego Zoo a few weeks ago and then went for a ride on the darling little train just outside the Zoo in Balboa Park. I always have such a fun time with this family.

Baby Greyson, at home.

About ten days after visiting Christine in the hospital, I got to see them all again at home.

Toddlers Three.

My good buddy (who is also my book group leader) had twins just over a year ago, and Ellison and Luke joined big brother, Jake. If you've been through my portfolio or seen my business card, Luke and Ellison looked like this just over a year ago:

Here they are now:

Gorgeous Miss Ellison - looks just like big brother Jake.

And Luke looks just like his mommy.

And then we have big brother Jake who seems to be embracing big-brotherhood with as good an attitude as could be expected by a 2.5 year old. In about 14 years there are going to be a great many teenaged girls crushing on Jake. Mark my words.

And then here's their amazing mommy who never seems frazzled or frustrated or anything less than charming and funny and gorgeous every time I see her.

Congrats, K & T on your gorgeous and growing family. Love you guys!

Sweet, sweet, sweetness.

This amazingly gorgeous family has a new addition - a new little sister for Mr. Miles.  Ellen was adopted from Taiwan late last year and these are from their first official family-of-four photo session:

Miles is so incredibly photogenic and utterly adorable. I could totally see him in a Ralph Lauren ad.

And sweet Ellen is a sparkly, tiny baby who will be walking very soon. She has such a great personality and the most adorable dimples. And her mom did such a fabulous job decorating her room. Every girl's dream!

They have an amazing house, and Miles has his own killer pad in the backyard. This one of Miles and the one of the whole family on the bed are my favorite shots from our session. Thanks so much, Jill, and many congrats!

Brand new.

My buddy Christine had a baby last week. A baby boy. And I got to visit them in the hospital for the first installment of their newborn session. The last time I did newborn photos in the hospital was when my daughter Nadia was born 2.5 years ago. And I have to say, I loved doing this again. I was there for maybe 20 minutes and I got some of my favorite photographs *ever*. There was just something so sweet and pure and honest about how these turned out. I'll be seeing Christine and her new little family again on Saturday for the second half of their session - baby Greyson will be about 10 days old. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this sweet wee man:

Thank you, Christine and Tony for inviting me into your bliss to witness your dream come true. See you Saturday.

***ETA: A response to Heather's inquiry in the comments section:

This effect can be achieved with most lenses, especially with your 50mm. The result is the combination of a wide-open aperture (if you have the 50mm 1.8 then leave the aperture at 1.8) and the focus point. For the first photo, the focal point is the baby's head and his daddy's hand, leaving everything beyond the baby looking soft and blurry. In the next photo, the focus point is the parent's adoring faces. It would be best to shoot this set up in a more creative mode to make sure you (and not the camera) have control over aperture and focus point. I shot this in AV mode on my 5D with my 24/70L at f2.8 (wide open for that lens). Thanks for the question, Heather in Charlotte!

A Saturday in the Park.

Balboa Park here in San Diego is clearly becoming one of my favorite locations. There are so many great places with amazing light at any time of the day.

On this particular Saturday, a very, very warm and perfect San Diego winter day in mid-January, I had the chance to photograph my buddy Sue and her sweet family. I met Sue through my book group and I firmly believe she's the big sister I always wanted. Not only do we look alike, right down to our gapped teeth, but we are the same kind of goofball, prone to not-so-lady-like outbursts. She's smart and funny and a mother of three, and is as passionate about her job (she works with special-needs children) as I am about mine.

So, thanks, my friend, for getting together with me and my camera. I sure hope you like the results. Here are a few of my session faves to last until your disc arrives. Enjoy!
